On Tuesday, 13th November 2018, Rainer Helmig speaks in the context of the lecture series Questions to the scientific community of the Volkshochschule Stuttgart about "From the brain to energy storage: Porous media are everywhere".

From the brain to energy storage: Porous media are everywhere
The understanding of flow, transport and deformation in porous media has a high relevance e.g. for the optimization of fuel cells, energy storage, the prediction of landslides due to heavy precipitation or the spread of tumours in human tissue.
As a natural source of energy, the underground is increasingly becoming the focus of interest, e.g. for the extraction of fossil methane or the use of geothermal energy as a natural source of energy. The "underground system" is of great importance to us as an important natural resource and as a possible storage system. Rainer Helmig explains the particular positive or negative storage properties and their effects on groundwater.
