Review: VHS Stuttgart lecture by Rainer Helmig

November 15, 2018 /

The public SFB 1313 lecture on 13th November 2018 at VHS Stuttgart was a great success: around 60 people attended the event and listened to Rainer Helmig who was giving a lecture entitled „From brains to energy storage systems: Porous media are everywhere“.

He first explained what porous media are and where to find them in our everyday life. He showed vivid examples such as the human body, espresso preparation, fuel cells, energy storage in the natural underground etc.

After the general introduction he showed the connection of these examples and the fundamental research of SFB 1313. He explained the latest scientific findings as well as why the fundamental research on porous media and their interfaces becomes more and more important. As we live on a planet where resources are finite and pollution and global warming play a very important role, he gave some ideas on how we could deal with these challenges and what science possibly can do to support.

After the lecture, butter pretzels and drinks were served and the audience had the opportunity to discuss with Rainer Helmig and to ask him questions about his lecture.
