The "Tag der Wissenschaft" (science day) of the University of Stuttgart took take place on 24 May 2025 from 1 to 7 pm CET on the Campus of the University of Stuttgart. The SFB 1313 team organised the mini exhibition "Pretty Porous - Alles Porös".

Once a year, the University of Stuttgart opens its laboratory doors. Different departments, institutes and research teams showed their research, created exhibits or hands-on experimente, gave lectures.

Our SFB 1313 team participated with the mini exhibition "Pretty Porous - Alles Porös". Children and adults were introduced in the world of porous media and had the possibility to understand them through exhibits and experiments. The event took place on 24 May 2025 at the university campus.

Exhibit "Below the Surface"

Mini Exhibition "Pretty Porous - Alles Porös"

What do sponges, sand, skin, plants and even asphalt have in common? They are all porous media. We find them almost everywhere in our everyday lives. Visitors could explore porous media in the tiny exhibition "Pretty Porous - Alles Porös". They could examine various porous media under the microscope and discover their physical properties in experiments at five stations.

  1. What are porous media? Sample table with different porous media
  2. Porous Media under the microscope: examine porous structures
  3. Hands-on exhibit "Below the surface": an earthworm explains to us porous media processes
  4. Experiment: How fast does water flow through porous media?
  5. Porous Media Lab station
Visitors examined different porous structures at the microscope table.

In-depth information

The SFB 1313 team presented the Porous Media Lab of the University of Stuttgart in an interactive presentation. Visitors who were interested in our research could dive in our research via the Porous Media Lab station.
