April 28, 2023 /

This year's Girls' Day coding workshop took place on 27 April 2023. The workshop was organised in cooperation between SFB 1313 of the University of Stuttgart and SFB-TRR 161 of the University of Stuttgart and the University of Konstanz.

This year's Girls' Day took place on 27 April 2023. Ten girls participated in the SFB 1313/SFB-TRR 161 workshop "Art meets Computer Science. Code your own Piece of Art", that took place in person again at the Visualization Research Center of the University of Stuttgart (VISUS). The two doctoral researchers Alexander Straub (SFB 1313 research project D01) and Maurice Koch from the VISUS held the workhop.

After a short introduction, the girls were introduced to the subject "What is computer science?". After the theoretical part, the practical part could begin. The girls learned the basics for programming their individual artwork with JavaScript. At the beginning they learnd how to create different forms and how to colour them and later on they created their own art piece with the tools they learnd before.

At lunch time, they went to the Campus Mensa with a computer science student, to whom they could aks all of their questions. During the workshop, the girls had also the possibility to participate in a computer science quiz where they could test their computer science konwledge.

At the end of the day, some pretty art pieces were programmed. The workshop day with the girls was a lot of fun and time just flew by.
