June 19, 2018 /

You missed Rainer Helmig’s lecture about Ground Water and the Competitive Use of the Natural Underground? No problem – just find the audio file of the lecture in German below.

The lecture took place on 11th May 2018 at the Stadtbibliothek Stuttgart within the IZKT lectures series Water – Living Environment, Place of Longing, Resource. Rainer Helmig critically examined the often contradictory and competitive anthropogenic use of the natural underground: Drinking water reservoir vs. storage of bio-chemical or radioactive waste.

He vividly explained the environmental exploitation and pollution by humans, especially since the industrial revolution in the 19th century. He gave an overview of the present situation on a national and international level and showed approaches for solutions in the field of system modeling, on which he and his team are researching at the University of Stuttgart and especially within SFB 1313, the Collaborative Research Centre researching porous media.

A rousing lecture, which created an awareness of our present environmental situation, which was also lively discussed by the audience.
