International Student Exchange Program with the Montana State University (USA)

Bachelor or Master students of the University of Stuttgart in the field of Civil and Environmental Engineering or Simulation Technology have the chance to participate in the new International Student Exchange Program with the Montana State University (USA).

You are a student of the University of Stuttgart in the field of Civil and Environmental Engineering or Simulation Technology, you have a concrete research project (Bachelor's or Master's thesis) and you would also like to get to know a university in the USA? Then combine both and apply for the international exchange program between the Montana State University MSU (USA) and the University of Stuttgart.

What we offer
  • An international exchange program with MSU
  • Networking with MSU participants 
  • Reception of MSU participants in Stuttgart in the week of 29 May to 2 June 2023
  • One-week excursion to MSU in October 2023
  • Travel support of min. 500 euros
  • Workshops in the area of scientific work (thesis, scientific posters and presentations)
  • Start: March 2023 / End: November 2023

You have the chance to work on your own research project in the field of Civil and Environmental Engineering or Simulation Technology and we will accompany you during your work steps. You will network with students from the partner university and present your research project to them during several online meetings and on-site.

Students and researchers from the Montana State University visited the University of Stuttgart and SFB 1313 in May 2019.
Program Description
  • The exchange program starts in March 2023 and ends in November 2023
  • The student participants work on an individual research project in the field of Civil and Environmental Engineering or Simulation Technology (the research project may, for example, either already be the subject of a thesis or possibly lead to one)
  • Close cooperation and direct exchange with the MSU participants and their supervisors during the exchange program period. Discussions of the individual research projects and direct feedback will help you find your way.
  • The participants of the MSU visit Stuttgart from 29 May to 2 June 2023:
    • One week program on site with workshops
    • Oral and written presentations of the research projects
    • Visits to research facilities on the Stuttgart campus
    • Cultural activities (e.g. sightseeing in the city of Stuttgart and the surrounding area etc.)
  • The participants of the University of Stuttgart travel to MSU at the beginning of October 2023:
    • One week program on site with workshops
    • Oral and written presentations of the individual research projects
    • Visits to research facilities on the campus of the MSU
    • Cultural activities, such as a visit to Yellowstone National Park etc.
Aim
  • Development of an international network
  • Cooperation on an international level
  • Getting to know the US-American partner university MSU
  • Getting insights into the everyday student and research life at MSU
  • Working on your own research project that is either already the subject of a thesis or could perhaps lead to one
  • Oral presentations of the research projects to colleagues from other/the same disciplines (English)
  • Presentation of the research project in the form of posters, papers etc. (English)
Eligibility

Students of Civil and Environmental Engineering study programs as well as Simulation Technology are welcome to apply

Costs

Travel supports, given by the International Office of the University of Stuttgart are available to all selected students. We are working with the MSU to further minimize costs and make the program accessible to all students who qualify.

  • Bachelor or Master students of Civil and Environmental Engineering or Simulation Technology are invited to apply
  • The maximum number of participants is limited to five
