The City of Stuttgart organizes the 3rd Stuttgarter Wissenschaftsfestival (the science festival of the city of Stuttgart) from 11 to 22 October 2024 in cooperation with many scientific and non-scientific institutions. The University of Stuttgart is one of the cooperation partners. SFB 1313 and SimTech will jointly participate in the festival. In this context, the following three events take place from 15 to 17 October 2024:
- 15 October 2024: Event "Ich habe eine Vision" ("I have a vision"), from 3 pm to 9 pm. Evening event from 7 to 9 pm, followed by a reception until 11 pm. Registration needed.
- 16 October 2024: Pupil's Workshop from 9 am to 4 pm.
- 17 October 1012: Evening event "Die Zukunft der Wissenschaft: Mit Open Science raus aus dem Elfenbeinturm?", from 7 pm to 9 pm.
During these three events, there will be showcased a small science exhibition as supporting program. SFB 1313 and SimTech show their exhibits and installations on the second floor of the city hall Stuttgart.
SFB 1313 Exhibit: Below the Surface
Our digital exhibit "Below the surface" shows invisible porous media processes like flow, transport of dissolved salts, and the deformation of the soil that cannot be seen with the naked eye. Animated science illustrations show different weather and climate situations: the impact of rain or dryness for the soil and the atmosphere. The visitors can test their knowledge with a quiz and immerse themselves into the world of porous media.
SimTech Exhibit: Sandbox
The exhibit shows how simulations of complex phenomena such as flooding work. In the interactive sandbox, you can shape a landscape yourself and see in real time how it reacts to weather events - whether a wave floods an island or a dam holds up. Immerse yourself in exciting scenarios with virtual reality and discover how precise simulations improve our understanding of the world.
