What happens if the soil is contaminated with pollutants such as pesticides or road salt and it starts to rain? Where does the dirty rainwater actually go? It seeps into the ground and works its way through various earth and rock layers until it finally flows into the groundwater. However, how can we make these invisible processes visible? Find out at our SFB 1313 Girls' Day Workshop how simulations help us here!

In our workshop, we want to investigate with you the physical properties of of the porous medium “soil” (e.g. porosity, capillary forces, and permeability) and find out how polluted water migrates through it. Flow processes play a major role here, which you make visible in your own programmed computer simulation.
