We had the great pleasure to welcome a student group and their supervisors from the Center of Biofilm Engineering (Montana State University) at LH2 (Department of Hydromechanics and Modelling of Hydrosystems). They visited the University of Stuttgart from May 13 to May 17, 2019. Johannes Hommel – SFB1313's postdoc – organised a program for the whole week so that the group could get to know the different facets of the University of Stuttgart.
During their stay, they had the chance to visit the Campus and different facilities and institutes of the University of Stuttgart as well as the researchers and their work within SFB 1313:
- VISUS (Visualization Research Center)
- VEGAS (Groundwater and Soil Contamination Research Center)
- Laboratory Tour: SFB 1313 Porous Media Lab and Computer Tomography Lab
- Stuttgart Research Center System Biology (mathematical models for “decisions” on cell level)
- ISWA (Institute for Sanitary Engineering, Water Quality and Solid Waste Management)
- IZ (International Center of the University of Stuttgart)
- Hydraulic Laboratory
In addition to the Campus Tour, the three students also had the chance to give lectures about their research at the Center of Biofilm Engineering (MSU). Of course, there was also an informal part during which the group could meet other researchers and students to make contacts during barbecues etc.
In the context of the visit Adrienne Phillips – Professor at the CBE of MSU – was the latest speaker of the SFB 1313’s Anneliese Niethammer Lecture Series on May 16. She talked about "Biofilm-Induced Mineral Precipitation: A Journey from Laboratory to Field".
The collaboration between CBE and SFB 1313/LH2 is existing for a long time as well as the joint research interests in biofilm research. It was nice having you here. Come back soon!
