Ivar Stefansson and members of SFB 1313 and LH2 can look back on a long lasting collaboration. The more we are pleased to welcome him for four weeks, starting on 24 October 2022.
Ivar received his Bachelor degree in Nanotechnology and his Master degree in Applied and Computational Mathematics from the University of Bergen. During his Master studies, he started scientific exchange with members of LH2 and spent the winter semester 2015/2016 as Erasmus student in Stuttgart. In December 2016, he defended his Master's thesis with the title "A Comparison of Two Numerical Models for Flow in Fractured Porous Media and the Impact of Fracture Intersection Cell Removal". The thesis was supervised by SFB 1313 Advisory Board member Inga Berre and Jan Martin Nordbotten.
In 2017, Ivar started his PhD under the supervision of Inga Berre and Eirik Keilegavle, both members of the Department of Mathematics at the University of Bergen. In 2019 he came back to Stuttgart in order to spend a two-month research stay at LH2. In February 2021, he defended his PhD thesis entitled "Modelling and simulation of thermo-hydro-mechanical processes in fractured porous media". Since April 2021 he has a position as researcher at the Department of Mathematics of the University of Bergen.
Ivar's research focuses on computational mathematics, fluid flow in porous media, geothermal energy and faults and fractures. We are very much looking forward to having many fruitful discussions on these subjects during his forthcoming stay in Stuttgart.
