Congratulations to our SFB 1313 external partner and Alexander von Humboldt Fellow Bo Guo on being selected as the "2027 Henry Darcy Distinguished Lecturer" by the National Ground Water Association (NGWA) and The Groundwater Foundation. The Henry Darcy Distinguished Lectureship is a prestigious international award that recognizes outstanding contributions to groundwater science and engineering.

Groundwater science is more important than ever as society confronts increasingly complex water quality challenges, including emerging contaminants such as PFAS,” said Guo. “The Darcy Lectureship provides a unique opportunity to share how advances in porous media physics, mathematical modeling, and decision-support tools can improve our understanding of contaminant transport in the subsurface and support more informed environmental decision-making.“
About Bo Guo
Bo Guo is Associate Professor of Hydrology and Atmospheric Sciences at the University of Arizona, USA. For the Bachelor degree, he studied Hydraulic Engineering at Tsinghua University in Beijing, China, and for the Master degree he studied Civil and Environmental Engineering at Princeton University, USA. In 2016, he passed his PhD at Princeton University under the supervision of Michael Celia.
Bo studies the fundamental physics of fluid flow and transport in porous media motivated by environmental and energy problems in Earth’s subsurface. The primary applications of his research include contaminant transport in soil and groundwater especially emerging contaminants such as PFAS, shale gas/oil production, geological CO2 storage, and more recently critical zone science. His research has a strong focus on i) advancing microscale (i.e., pore scale) understanding of flow and transport processes and ii) improving their macroscopic model representation for developing predictive computational tools at the field-scale. He specializes in mathematical and computational modeling, and frequently collaborates with researchers with experimental expertise to utilize laboratory-measured parameters and field data to drive the models and evaluate and validate model predictions.
About the Henry Darcy Distinguished Lectureship
Established in 1986, the Henry Darcy Distinguished Lecture Series in Groundwater Science fosters interest and excellence in groundwater science and technology throughout the groundwater industry. The Darcy Distinguished Lecture is named for Henry Darcy of France for his 1856 investigations that established the physical principle upon which modern groundwater hydrogeology is based.
