Coaching
Based on the wishes of the doctoral researchers and young scientists we offer specific courses, which cover various topics to help develop successful careers. Some examples of offered courses in the last years are:
Mentoring Programme of the SFB 1313
For female members of the integrated research training group IRTG-IMPM a complementary subject-related mentoring programme on an international level will be established. Upon request, the SFB 1313 will assign an international scientist from the field as mentor to each female participant. The mentoring includes at least one annual meeting in Stuttgart or the home institution of the mentor. It will focus on career opportunities in the research field with the aim of increasing the visibility of the scientists. In addition to this mentoring, a university-wide lecture series of leading female researchers from academia and industry in the field of porous media will be set up.
Key Services provided by the University of Stuttgart
Mentoring programmes at the University of Stuttgart for women in science support ambitious female master students, doctoral students and professors. The programmes are expected to accompagny talented female researchers in their professional carreer.
The Service Gender Consulting offers consulting and support for the integration of matters of equal treatment in research and for the enhancement of competences for the development of a gender-adequate management culture.
Information on service offerings ensuring family-friendly work and study conditions for everyone, which are topics the University of Stuttgart is highly committed to.
At University of Stuttgart several parent-child rooms are available for parents with young children. Among these is the newly established Parent-Child room at Pfaffenwaldring 57, established by a joint effort of the research centres at the University of Stuttgart.

Anneliese Niethammer Lecture Series
SFB 1313's Anneliese Niethammer Lecture Series, dedicated to Anneliese Niethammer (1901–1983), ecological microbiologist and first female professor at the University of Stuttgart, gives women in the science once a semester the possibility to present their scientific work. It serves as platform and intends especially to encourage and to inspire women to pursue a career in the natural sciences.

Girls' Day
SFB 1313 participates at the Girls' Day, organized by the University of Stuttgart, and offers STEM workshops for girls to arouse their curiosity for a science career and to show them the interdisciplinary work of SFB 1313.
TryScience
SFB 1313 offers TryScience workshops for pupils to give an insight view into porous media related study programs, such as environmental technology, simulation technology, mechanics or mathematics etc.
Supporting young female researchers
New junior professor for porous media: Maartje Boon
Maartje Boon is the new junior professor within SFB 1313 and SimTech at the Institute of Applied Mechanics (MIB) at the University of Stuttgart. She started her work on 1 September 2023. We are delighted to have been able to recruit a young and outstanding scientist like Maartje Boon for our Collaborative Research Center. With her expertise, she will enrich the experimental tests in the Porous Media Lab at the University of Stuttgart. With her research focus in the field of experimental characterization of complex multiphase processes, she will make a significant contribution to better analysis of propagation processes in porous media. She succeeds Jun.-Prof. Carina Bringedal, who received a permanent position at the Western Norway University of Applied Sciences in Bergen in October 2022.
A success story: Jun.-Prof. Carina Bringedal
The SFB 1313 team was able to win Carina Bringedal as a Junior Professor at the beginning of its first funding period. She worked as a principal investigator for research project A05 "Pore scale formulations for evaporation, and upscaling to REV scale" from 2018 to 2022. During her time in Stuttgart, she was focusing on interface-driven processes in porous media and on evaporation at the pore scale. In 2022, Carina Bringedal started a new permanent position as an associate professor at the Department of Computer Science, Electrical Engineering and Mathematical Sciences at the Western Norway University of Applied Sciences. The whole SFB 1313 team congratulates her for this huge success. Carina is still strongly linked to the SFB 1313 since she is an associated member of SFB 1313 and co-investigator of research project A05.
Zia Fellowship: Visible Women in Science
Our SFB1313 doctoral researcher Stefanie Kiemle from the University of Stuttgart is one of the Zia Fellows 2023/24 of the Zeitverlag Gerd Bucerius Gmbh & Co. Kg. The ZEIT Zia fellowship program is an initiative that aims to support female scientists in their career and personal development in cooperation with partners, supporters and sponsors. It's about female empowering, networking and science communication.
